This year’s NHSBT/BTS organ retrieval masterclass will be held in Oxford on the 11th/12th December.
The course is a a two-day masterclass designed to optimise the quality of organs offered for transplant by improving the quality of retrieval practice. The course is aimed at retrieval team members involved in surgical retrieval of organs intended for transplant.
This year’s Workshop will again cover two days, with day one focusing on important issues in organ donation. The first part of the day will concentrate on the principles and logistics of organ donation whilst the second will focus on anatomy, surgical techniques and pitfalls. The second day will be practical with four simultaneous workshops, and groups will be split into smaller teams to practice on-site the abdominal and thoracic organ retrieval under the supervision of experienced consultant surgeons in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Oxford.
The registration fee for this year is £350 and includes overnight accommodation at the Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel, Oxford, on Thursday 11th December 2014, and catering for both days.
This Masterclass is part of the competency accreditation as a retrieval surgeon that is required to participate in a NORS Team, so it is essential that trainees who want to consider consultant jobs with a NORS component attend at some point during their training.
