  • Description: Join the British Transplant Society (BTS) for a masterclass aimed at postgraduate students, providing valuable insights and knowledge in the field of organ retrieval and transplantation.

These topics are designed to offer a comprehensive understanding of organ utilisation in transplantation, from introductory concepts to specialized discussions on liver and kidney utilisation, culminating in an educational masterclass. Each session will contribute to a well-rounded exploration of this critical aspect of organ transplantation.

Mr Chris Callaghan

Guy’s Hospital, London

    Mr Callaghan is a consultant transplant surgeon at Guy’s Hospital, London, and is also a member of the transplant teams at Great Ormond Street Hospital and the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. He qualified in medicine from the University of Otago, New Zealand, and then trained in multi-organ transplant surgery in Cambridge. Mr Callaghan is the NHS Blood Transplant associate medical director for abdominal organ utilisation and he has clinical and research interests in the use of higher risk deceased donor organs, and in the use of warm machine perfusion in organ transplantation.

Ms Anya Adair

    Ms Anya Adair is a Consultant Transplant & HPB Surgeon at the Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and Honorary Senior Lecturer University of Edinburgh.

    She is currently the National Liver Clinical Lead for Organ Utilisation (CLU) and Surgical Lead on the Liver advisory group (LAG) NHSBT

    Ms Anya Adair sits on  British Transplant Society Council as liver transplant representative, the Editorial board of HPB Journal and British Liver trust clinical advisory group.

    She is co Lead for the National resection service for Hilar Cholangiocarcinoma in Scotland and member of the implementation groups introducing Transplant Oncology service Evaluations in the UK.

Mr Nick Inston

Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham

Mr Nick Inston FRCS  PhD is a Consultant Surgeon and Clinical Lead for Renal Surgery and Transplantation at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. He has a specialty interest in the surgery related to kidney diseases. This includes general surgery in patients with renal failure, vascular access for dialysis, polycystic kidney disease, living kidney donation and transplantation. In addition, he is active in clinical research studies and trials on vascular access and transplantation. He is National Clinical Lead for Organ Utilisation (Kidneys) in the UK and current Treasurer of the Vascular Access Society.
